About Thai surnames
- There is no 'common' Thai surname — by law each family name must be unique to that family line.
- Surnames are usually multi-syllable Sanskrit/Pali compounds: e.g. 'Saengthong' (light + gold), 'Charoensuk' (prosperity + happiness).
